Trekkers' March Outing

Where:Cramond, River Almond and Lauriston Castle
How Long:A flat, circular walk of 6 miles
Underfoot:Well defined paths involving some road and pavement walking.  Some steps involved
Leaving St John's:9:00 am

From Cramond harbour, we walk along the banks of the River Almond (which rises in the in hills near Shotts) to Cramond Brig.  A walk through the Edinburgh suburb of Barnton which will take us into Lauriston Estate with its 16th century tower house (extended in the 19th century) and once the home of John Napier (best known as the discoverer of logarithms).  Views from here extend across the Firth of Forth to the Fife Coast with the Isle of May in the distance.  We then walk through Silverknowes Golf Course to Cramond Esplanade and back to our start point.
