News from St John's

National Giving Day

As COVID restrictions are slowly eased, congregations throughout the country are gradually picking up the threads of church life and, quite literally, counting the cost of the pandemic.

One effect of the closure of our churches for worship and other activities was, and still is, a drastic drop in congregational giving.  Although income was severely cut, many fixed expenses, such as insurance, Council Tax and contributions for Ministry and Mission, still required to be paid.  All this has cut deeply into our financial reserves.

The Church of Scotland has recognised the financial crisis facing many congregations and are encouraging all members to take part in a National Giving Day.  All funds donated will remain with the congregations.  Our Kirk Session has set aside the weekend of 30 and 31 October 2021 to allow our members to participate.

How to donate

  • The Church halls will be open on Saturday 30 October 2021 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon and again from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.  Donations, in cash or by cheque, can be put in an envelope, marked Gift Day and handed in any time during the open periods.
  • Envelopes, containing your donation, will also be received after in church the morning service on Sunday, 31 October 2021.
  • You can also make a donation online at any time before 31 October 2021.  Use sort code 80-12-79 and account number 00250039.  Include the reference Gift Day to ensure your gift gets included in the correct manner.

Restoring our finances to sound health, will enable St John's congregation can continue to carry out the work of the Lord in Carluke and the wider world.  The Kirk Session commends the Giving Day to all members, and would encourage everyone to prayerfully consider what they can give in support of this initiative.
